Nutrition & Feeding Scheme

A hot, balanced meal every school day for every learner in need.

4 000+ meals / term

It begins before the sun is fully up. By 06:00, a team of parent volunteers is already in the school kitchen, stirring great pots of maize porridge, chopping vegetables for a hearty samp-and-beans, and warming bread donated by the bakery down the road. By first break, more than four hundred children a day will have eaten a hot, balanced meal — for many of them, the most reliable meal of their day.

Run under the National Schools Nutrition Programme in partnership with three local businesses and our School Governing Body, the feeding scheme exists for one simple reason: a hungry child cannot learn. We have watched it transform classrooms. Attendance in the lower grades has climbed, concentration has sharpened, and the quiet shame that hunger brings has lifted from dozens of small shoulders.

What makes our scheme different is accountability. Every meal is logged against the learner who receives it, and a voucher is confirmed only once the food is actually in the child’s hands — never merely when it is ordered or delivered to the gate. Donors can see, to the meal, exactly where their generosity went. It is the same principle of verified delivery that runs through our whole approach to fairness.

“We don’t see it as charity,” says one of our partner donors. “We see it as planting seeds. Feed a child today, and tomorrow this community grows its own nurses, its own teachers, its own engineers.” To everyone who has given a sack of mealie meal or an hour of their morning — thank you. The kitchen door is always open.
